Arthritis
Arthritis
there are many types of Arthritis the most common are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis
Osteoarthritis: throughout our lives our bones sustain damage but the body heals itself, however with Osteoarthritis the cartilage at the end of our bones does not heal as effectively so it breaks down causing the joint to rub. Symptoms of this usually include; Swelling, Pain, Grinding sounds and redness on the skin surrounding the joint (less obvious on darker skin)
Rheumatoid arthritis: Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease meaning your cells that usually fight infections get confused and start attaching the cells in your joints causing them to breakdown
What do we treat?
Once we have confirmed the cause of your pain and we have discussed how this affects your daily life through a discussion about your pain, medical history and specific questions, we then do a physical assessment. After this we discuss the treatment options, usually this involves some of the following; massage, rehabilitation, taping, Ultrasound, where treatment is not suggested we may suggest onward referrals for surgical or medical intervention.
If you have any questions or specific treatments in mind please discuss with your treating therapist, we are happy to talk through the assessment and treatment process with you
